POEM: HERE

I have an old blog that's ready to expire. I thought I would dive in and share some of my posts. This poem is from January 12, 2014.

Here

He counts his time
The mail arrives
He whistles for his partner and waves goodbye

Come sit with me for a while
Come sit with me tonight
Come talk to me for a while
Come talk to me tonight

He plays his guitar
And tells his story
He rests his chin on his hand and smiles
He hums a sweet tune and leans in
Motions to the back door
And slowly comes in

Come sit with me for a while
Come sit with me tonight
Come talk to me for a while
Come talk to me tonight

He grabs a chair next to the window
He takes a sip of his coffee
He looks up to say hello
He opens up the door

He listens to the stories
He adds his own two cents
He jokes with the young ones
He sympathizes with the old

He pivots before he leaves
His eyes fall to the floor
He presses his hand against the glass
He moves his lips to say no more
He leaves behind an empty space
A place for him to return

Come walk with me for a while
Come walk with me tonight
Come dream with me for a while
Come back to me tonight
